Pregnancy is a wonderful time- the joy of growing new life and the anticipation of that new little bundle of joy you can’t wait to hold in your arms. It also means getting the nursery ready, buying cute outfits, and picking out the perfect name.
However, us mom’s often get overlooked in all the excitement of the new baby. No one seems to notice how we are feeling or how hard it is to carry that growing bundle of joy for 9 months. Nothing feels worse than having everyone greet your growing belly before realizing you are also in the room. 😳
That’s why it’s so important to focus on you during your pregnancy. To treat yourself to a few items that make you feel comfortable and special.
Believe me, I know. I’ve had 3 babies of my own. I understand how it feels to have your back ache and your feet be so swollen you feel like they will explode. But as a mom and a pelvic floor therapist, there were a few key things that helped to get me through- and I’d like to share a few of my favorite products and tips with y’all.
Compression socks are a MUST! I love these from Sockwell. They are firm but easy to put on (ya know, with a growing belly). Their socks come in all sorts of cut patterns too!
When you lie down at night you just want to be comfy, amiright? I hear some women get these giant U-shaped pregnancy pillows but then there’s no room for hubby in the bed! That’s why I loved the Boppy Pregnancy Pillow! It’s small enough to fit in bed and supportive enough for your head, belly and legs.
My favorite “everything pregnancy” book Pregnancy, Childbirth, and the Newborn is by my fellow PT Penny Simpkin. It’s packed full of knowledge, guides, practical exercises, and helpful diagrams and pictures. Check it out!
ProBump Pregnancy Belly Support Band is like a sports bra for your belly! It gives just the right amount of hug around your baby so that your belly feels supported and it helps to relieve lower back pain. Plus wear this in postpartum to give your now lax abdomen some support until you start doing your #pistonbreathing.
And last but not least, my Top 5 Exercises for Pregnancy, Postpartum and Beyond. Ya’ll these will help you stay fit and active through pregnancy, help jumpstart your postpartum recovery, and help you maintain your fitness through any stage of life.
